Metal Heart Festival Band Submissions
For any metal bands in Australia, submissions are currently going on to be part of the huge Metal Heart Festival in Brisbane. From past events it looks like it's been cranking, and it's for a good cause too - to raise funds for the heart foundation. Would be a great thing to be a part of, and they want bands from every state.
If anyone would like to apply, the email address is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , send an EPK through and they will consider them, submissions close Jan 5 2014 so get on it and don't miss the opportunity!
Gigs, gigs, gigs!
There are a whole lot of great metal shows lined up for the last half of the year, just check out the gig guide to see what I mean (the front page only shows the closest 10 upcoming shows).
Not only are there some cool nights of local and Australian metal, but there are tours out the wazoo! With bands like Behemoth (with Hour of Penance), Enslaved, Amorphis, Soilwork, Sleep.. and that's basically just October!
WAM Song of the Year 2013
Metal bands of WA, if you haven't already, have a think about entering the WAM Song of the Year competition. I've been a judge on the panel before so don't think it's pointless to enter and fluff and garbage only gets a look in.
There is a heavy category and prizes for winning that. There is cash to win, recording time and a bunch of other cool things so check it out. Submissions are now open until July 22 so jump to it. What do you have to lose - nothing, what do you have to gain - cool shit!

Nile and The Faceless Australian Tour
Soundworks presents Nile with guests The Faceless, "At The Gate Of Sethu" Australian tour, November 2013.
NILE are back at their best with a new album and a special new Australian tour comprising one huge set spanning NILE’s entire career! Using a symphonic approach to song writing and arrangement, for 20 years now NILE have unleashed an uncompromising attack that fuses technical death metal with organic Middle Eastern tones. ‘At The Gates Of Sethu’ is no different and will guide you down into the depths of their ominous catacombs to torture your souls with the darkest tunes in a long time! As far as the sound is concerned, “At The Gate Of Sethu” can be considered a return to the era of “Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka” and “In Their Darkened Shrines”
Joining NILE is THE FACELESS in their first trip back to Australia since the highly successful Summer Slaughter Tour of 2009! Combining blistering guitar work, complex and fast-paced rhythms and all offset by haunting keyboards, THE FACELESS have carved their path by daring to be different and composing intricate and unique gems. Debuting at #50 on the Billboard charts in USA, The FACELESS latest recorded achievement in “AUTOTHEISM” still contains the trademark speed picking, flying double bass and skin melting guitar solos but also some unique instrumentation, dark moody passages, interesting keyboards, synth guitars, vocoder and sequenced segments. It's IS the most focused and depressive FACELESS record to date.
